How to convert hourly pay to salary
- Annual pay = hourly pay × hours per week × weeks per year
- Hourly pay = annual salary ÷ (hours per week × weeks per year)
- Monthly pay = annual pay ÷ 12, weekly pay = annual pay ÷ weeks per year
A standard full-time year is 40 hours × 52 weeks = 2,080 hours, which is the number most salary conversions use.

Frequently asked questions
Is this pay before or after tax?
Before tax. These figures are gross pay. Income tax, payroll taxes and benefit deductions reduce what you actually take home.
What if I do not work 52 weeks a year?
Lower the weeks per year to account for unpaid time off. If you get paid vacation, keep it at 52 because you are still paid for those weeks.
Does this include overtime?
No. Overtime is usually paid at a higher rate for hours beyond a threshold, so calculate it separately and add it to the total.
Why do I get a slightly different result on a paycheck?
Pay periods vary. Twice a month is 24 paychecks while every two weeks is 26, so each paycheck amount differs even though the annual total is the same.
